“dear jane” album set
As the packaging designer for Dear Jane’s album set, my objective was to visually capture the emotional depth and evolution of their music.
Dear Jane, a Hong Kong-based band formed in 2003, initially built their sound around punk and rock influences. Over the years, their style has expanded to incorporate a broader range of genres, including pop. Their name draws inspiration from the concept of a “Dear John letter”—a letter traditionally written by a woman to end a relationship with a man. Dear Jane, in contrast, represents the male perspective in a breakup, a theme that resonates deeply in their music.
This album set is designed to narrate the three distinct stages of a romantic relationship: bloom, fade, and recall. Each phase is visually expressed through a cohesive packaging system that reflects the emotions of love, loss, and nostalgia, creating an immersive experience that aligns with the band’s storytelling.
By integrating thoughtful design elements, the packaging serves as a visual extension of Dear Jane’s musical narrative, enhancing both the aesthetic and emotional connection between the band and their audience.
